Israeli alternative seafood startup Oshi (formerly Plantish) has partnered with Coletta Restaurant, a New York City-based vegan Italian restaurant, to debut its plant-based salmon filets for food service in the US.
Oshi's salmon filets are made from a blend of legume proteins and algae extracts using 3D printing technology. According to the company, the product offers a similar nutritional composition and fibrous texture as real salmon and is free from contaminants such as microplastics and mercury.
Analyst QuickTake: With this launch, the company has successfully achieved its goal of expanding into the US foodservice market before the end of 2023. Additionally, the company intends to launch the salmon filet at five restaurants before its official launch in 2024.
