DroneUp, a drone-based delivery services provider, has partnered with fast food chain Chick-fil-A to offer drone-based deliveries for the latter's customers in Tampa Bay Area, Florida.
The service is currently limited to a 1.2 mile radius from the Chick-fil-A location in Brandon-Valrico, with prospects of expanding the service to within two miles. Customers can place orders via the Chick-fil-A app, and orders will be delivered free of charge to consumers.
The service is currently in experimental stages, with plans to launch at a small number of Chick-fil-A restaurants. Neither party has disclosed other planned locations.
Analyst QuickTake: Chick-fil-A has prior experience in providing automated delivery services, having previously collaborated with delivery droid operators Refraction AI (last extended in June 2023) and Kiwibot (in April 2021) for droid-based food delivery initiatives across various locations. However, the latest development signifies the company's entrance into the realm of drone-based food delivery.
