Oishii, a vertical farming company specializing in Japanese omakase strawberries, has launched its latest product, the Rubī Tomato, at select Whole Foods stores in the US.
Rubī, from a Japanese variety known as the "fruit tomato," is grown at the company's indoor vertical farm just outside New York City.
Starting today, Rubī is available at Whole Foods Market's Jersey City location for USD 9.99 for a tray of 11 tomatoes. Oishii also plans to expand to other Whole Foods Market stores in the coming months.
Furthermore, Oishii is also developing new types of flowering produce.
Analyst QuickTake: Oishii was featured in our EDGE100 report, ranking 31st among the 100 most promising early-stage startups in various emerging industries that have the potential to reshape the future. Rubī is Oishii's third product to reach the consumer market and is its first non-strawberry offering. Oishii introduced its first strawberry, the Omakase Berry, in 2018 and its second strawberry, the Koyo Berry , earlier this year. The Rubī debuts as Oishii plans to expand the availability of its products throughout the Northeastern US.
