6k Additive receives USD 23.4 million from Department of Defense to convert waste into higher grade metals

Funding

  • The Department of Defense has granted USD 23.4 million to 6k Additive through the Defense Production Act Investment (DPAI) Program. This funding aims to enhance the capacity of converting waste into higher grade metals for defense and commercial supply chains.

  • The awarded funds will facilitate facility renovation, equipment acquisition, and engineering at 6K Additive. This expansion will enable the production of high-grade metals, like titanium, niobium, nickel, and tungsten, essential for various defense applications such as aircraft components, engines, and radar systems. Leveraging proprietary upcycling processes, 6K Additive will utilize domestic metal sources, including end-of-life components and manufacturing waste.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Last month, 6k Additive acquired Global Metal Powders to expand sustainable powder production capabilities by producing sustainable titanium and refractory metal powder on a large scale.
