Arizona has proposed two bills targeting the labeling and sale of cultivated meat products. House Bill 2244 requires accurate labeling of non-livestock-derived food to prevent confusion between cell-cultured meat and traditional meat products. On the contrary, House Bill 2121 proposes a complete ban on selling and producing cell-cultured meat.
Supporters of Bill 2244 claim its goal is to bring about industry-wide transparency and avoid restricting the availability and acquisition of alternative meat products. Conversely, proponents of Bill 2121 argue that cell-cultured meat could be detrimental to public health and the state's historical reliance on cattle.
Analyst QuickTake: The cell-cultured meat industry continues to receive pushback from legislators in several states. Avoiding confusion between lab-grown and farmed meat and safety concerns are among the top concerns of these legislations. Recently, Florida also proposed a new bill banning the production and distribution of cultivated meat.
