Mewery Meat awarded EUR 200,000 in government grant funding

Funding

  • Mewery Meat, a Czech biotech company specializing in cell-cultured pork, was awarded a EUR 200,000 (~USD 216,900) non-dilutive grant by the Czech Government via CzechInvest Technological Incubator.

  • The grant funding will be used to conduct in-depth studies to enhance the efficiency of its platform in preparation for future expansion. The research will delve into cell characterization, exploring growth-related metabolites, and gene expression pattern analysis.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Mewery Meat’s operation focuses on using microalgae to develop slaughter-free pork to become a leader in the cultivated pork space in Europe. In 2022, the company proved the feasibility of its microalgae-based growth medium as an FBS alternative for growing mammalian cells. Later, in 2023, it unveiled its cultivated pork prototype made using a hybrid culture medium and microalgae extract, consisting of 75% pork and 25% microalgae cells.
