The UK Government has announced a GBP 12 million (~USD 15.2 million) investment in a microbial research hub led by Dr. Rodrigo Ledesma-Amaro at the Imperial College London. This hub will focus on researching fermentation-based foods to produce sustainable alternatives to animal products.
The hub will focus on technologies utilizing microorganisms, like biomass fermentation to create mycoproteins, precision fermentation for bioidentical egg or dairy proteins, and traditional fermentation improvement for plant-based foods.
