Oishii, a vertical farming company specializing in Japanese omakase strawberries, has secured USD 134 million in Series B funding led by NTT, with participation from Bloom8, McWin Capital Partners, the Japan Green Investment Corporation for Carbon Neutrality, and Yaskawa Electric Corporation.
The company plans to use the funds to open a solar-powered facility, expand distribution to new markets, and invest in advanced robotics and energy-saving innovations.
Analyst QuickTake: The funding comes from Oishii's launch of its Rubī Tomato in select Whole Foods stores in the US in December 2023, following the unveiling of its second strawberry, the Koyo Berry , in February 2023. Yaskawa, one of the investors in this round, also partnered with the company in May 2023 to provide Oishii plant factories with automation systems based on Yaskawa's i3-Mechatronics solution concept.
