Rivian, an American EV manufacturer, has received a USD 827 million incentive package from the State of Illinois. The company intends to use the funds to expand operations at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois.
The plant, which currently produces 150,000 vehicles annually, will be expanded to 250,000 units. The funds will also be used to improve infrastructure and carry out job training programs for Rivian’s workforce. Rivian will produce its R2 model at the plant.
Analyst QuickTake: This news follows Rivian's reported plans to stop constructing a USD 5 billion EV production plant, as it looks to cut costs after the round of layoffs that took place in February 2024 . The company initially intended to produce its R2 and R3 EVs in Georgia from 2026 onwards.
