Hyzon and New Way unveil first hydrogen fuel-cell refuse truck in North America

Product updates

  • Hyzon Motors, a developer of commercial hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles (EV), and New Way Trucks, a refuse truck body manufacturer, unveiled the first hydrogen fuel-cell-powered electric refuse truck at the Waste Expo in Las Vegas, US.

  • This follows the two companies signing a joint development agreement in February 2024 . Hyzon’s hydrogen fuel cells can power over 125 mi, including up to 1,200 cart lifts and trips to the transfer station.

  • The truck will be tested on routes in California, starting with Recology, a San Francisco-based solid waste and recycling collection and processing company.

  • Analyst QuickTake: In October 2023 , Hyzon commercially deployed its first heavy rigid fuel-cell electric waste collection truck to REMONDIS Australia on a trial basis. The truck was designed for waste collection, with a range of 200 km and a capacity for 1,500 bin lifts per working day.
