Hyzon Motors, a developer of commercial hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles (EV), and New Way Trucks, a refuse truck body manufacturer, unveiled the first hydrogen fuel-cell-powered electric refuse truck at the Waste Expo in Las Vegas, US.
This follows the two companies signing a joint development agreement in February 2024 . Hyzon’s hydrogen fuel cells can power over 125 mi, including up to 1,200 cart lifts and trips to the transfer station.
The truck will be tested on routes in California, starting with Recology, a San Francisco-based solid waste and recycling collection and processing company.
Analyst QuickTake: In October 2023 , Hyzon commercially deployed its first heavy rigid fuel-cell electric waste collection truck to REMONDIS Australia on a trial basis. The truck was designed for waste collection, with a range of 200 km and a capacity for 1,500 bin lifts per working day.
