SHICKEN Foods, a UK-based plant-based meat brand, has announced the development of a new recipe free from the top 14 allergens. Claimed to be a first in the UK, this recipe replaces previously used soy and wheat proteins with pea protein sourced from East Anglia.
Products utilizing this new recipe are produced at SHICKEN's certified allergen-free facility in Kent, UK, and will launch at Costco and other outlets in a phased rollout. According to the company, the recipe alteration enhances the product’s taste and texture and caters to a broader consumer base, considering various dietary needs.
Analyst QuickTake: Recently, SHICKEN Foods raised GBP 4 million (~USD 5.2 million) in funding from Veg Capital to enhance its facility in Kent. With an estimated 2 million people diagnosed with food allergies, these newly formulated food products could help the company attract new customers.
