Bezos Earth Fund has awarded USD 30 million over five years to North Carolina State University to launch the first Bezos Center for Sustainable Protein. This funding will facilitate the creation of a biomanufacturing hub for eco-friendly, healthy, affordable, and tasty dietary proteins.
The facility will focus on R&D and commercialization of innovative technologies for developing plant-based, precision fermentation-derived, and cell-cultured proteins. It will also provide the necessary training for industry workers and measure consumer protein preferences in collaboration with academic and industrial partners.
Analyst QuickTake: In March 2024 , Bezos Earth Fund pledged USD 60 million to launch a series of sustainable protein centers. Along with the grant to NC State, an additional investment of USD 40 million was announced, bringing the total pledge to USD 100 million.
