BettaF!sh launches plant-based hot-smoked salmon alternative 'SAL-NOM'

Product updates

  • BettaF!sh, a German alternative seafood startup, has introduced "SAL-NOM," a plant-based alternative to hot-smoked salmon made from seaweed, after the success of its previous product, TU-NAH.

  • SAL-NOM is made from European organic seaweed, field beans, and pea proteins. It claims to be free from soya and wheat and offers a high protein content, omega-3 fatty acids, and fiber.

  • BettaF!sh, founded in 2020, offers 100% plant-based seafood alternatives made using seaweed. Its products are designed to mimic conventional seafood's taste and texture while having a lower environmental impact.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Seaweed is an ideal ingredient for developing alternative seafood products because it provides a natural, ocean-like taste and texture. It is also nutrient-rich and more environmentally friendly than protein sources like soy or wheat. OLALA (formerly Seafood Reboot) is another company that uses algae ingredients and seaweed for alternative seafood.
