Uber Freight has announced a multi-year collaboration with Aurora Innovation, a company specializing in autonomous driving technology. The partnership will give Aurora access to Uber Freight's shipping customers and allow Uber Freight to offer Aurora's technology on its network through 2030.
Aurora will launch a fully driverless commercial service on the Uber Freight network by the end of 2024 using a transportation-as-a-service (TaaS) model. Later, it will shift to a driver-as-a-service (DaaS) model, where carriers will purchase trucks with Aurora's autonomous driving technology and offer services on the Uber Freight network.
Analyst Quick Take: Aurora and Uber Freight initially partnered in December 2021 to launch a multiphase commercial pilot with Uber Freight to haul goods between Dallas and Houston in Texas. The companies expanded the partnership in December 2022 to include a new commercial lane between Fort Worth and El Paso, Texas.
