Uber Freight and Aurora Innovation partner for autonomous trucking solutions

Partnerships

  • Uber Freight has announced a multi-year collaboration with Aurora Innovation, a company specializing in autonomous driving technology. The partnership will give Aurora access to Uber Freight's shipping customers and allow Uber Freight to offer Aurora's technology on its network through 2030.

  • Aurora will launch a fully driverless commercial service on the Uber Freight network by the end of 2024 using a transportation-as-a-service (TaaS) model. Later, it will shift to a driver-as-a-service (DaaS) model, where carriers will purchase trucks with Aurora's autonomous driving technology and offer services on the Uber Freight network.

  • Analyst Quick Take: Aurora and Uber Freight initially partnered in December 2021 to launch a multiphase commercial pilot with Uber Freight to haul goods between Dallas and Houston in Texas. The companies expanded the partnership in December 2022 to include a new commercial lane between Fort Worth and El Paso, Texas.
