May Mobility, an autonomous shuttle operator, has secured a three-year USD 4.7 million contract with the Southwest Transit Commission to implement autonomous shuttle services in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, replacing parts of the current Southwest Prime microtransit service.
The autonomous service, utilizing five Toyota Sienna vans, will operate Monday through Saturday and aims to save over USD 500,000 annually by decommissioning three existing vehicles.
This initiative, funded partly by federal congestion mitigation grants, is expected to launch in the fall (September–December). Passengers will need to use designated pick-up points instead of door-to-door service.
Analyst QuickTake: May Mobility has a history of collaborating with cities and authorities on autonomous vehicle pilot programs. Such initiatives include those with Detroit's Office of Mobility Innovation, Contra Costa Transportation Authority, The Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the City of Arlington, and the City of Grand Rapids.
