Cohere raises USD 500 million in Series D funding to expand team and develop technology

Funding

  • Cohere, a Canadian AI startup developing LLMs, has raised USD 500 million in a Series D funding round from investors including Cisco, Fujitsu, AMD Ventures, EDC, and PSP Investments. The funding values Cohere at USD 5.5 billion, bringing its total funding to USD 970 million.

  • The funds will be used to expand Cohere's team and further develop its AI technology, which will enable productivity and efficiency gains for businesses globally.

  • Analyst QuickTake: This news comes a week after Cohere announced a partnership with Fujitsu , now also an investor, to develop a Japanese language model, leveraging Cohere's recent model, Command R+. The Command R+ model aims to compete with rivals like OpenAI while reportedly being more cost-effective. The company has also been particularly active this year, launching several new models, including Command R , Aya 23, and other toolkits for AI development.
