Wisk Aero, an eVTOL aircraft developer, announced its partnership with UK-based air taxi and drone logistics company Skyports to expand eVTOL services in Australia.
The partnership plans include developing an entry-into-service network and vertiports in Australia's South East Queensland (SEQ) region, launching unmanned air taxis for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, analyzing regional travel patterns, conducting feasibility studies, and engaging with potential landlords and nearby communities to develop the infrastructure network.
Wisk first showed interest in expanding to the Australian region in 2022 and 2023 when it began working with the Council of Mayors in SEQ. Wisk's partnership with Skyports began in 2022 when the two partners collaborated to discover how autonomous eVTOL aircraft could be integrated into vertiports.
Analyst QuickTake: In June 2024 , Wisk Aero partnered with Houston Airports to develop air transportation in Texas and assess possible vertiport locations. This was followed by its acquisition of Verocel with the objectives of ensuring its eVTOL's software security and integrating 60 members of Verocel's team into its operations.
