Anaergia, a TSX-listed waste-to-energy company, has formed a supply contract valued at CAD 13 million (~USD 9.5 million) with the City of Riverside, California, to upgrade the city's wastewater treatment facility.
As such, the company will upgrade the Riverside Water Quality Control Plant with anaerobic digestion technology to enable the production of renewable natural gas (RNG) from organic waste and sewage sludge. The upgraded facility will support a population of over 300,000 people.
The project aims to support the region's solid waste industry and divert food waste from landfills, complying with California's SB1383 legislation aimed at reducing methane emissions.
Analyst QuickTake: Similarly, in June 2023 , Anaergia agreed to provide technologies to Monterey One Water, the wastewater utility of northern Monterey County, California, to create renewable energy from food waste and wastewater.
