General Fusion, a Canadian fusion energy startup, has secured a total of CAD 20 million (~USD 14.6 million) in funding from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) and BDC Capital. This brings the company's total funding to USD 369 million.
General Fusion plans to use the funds to advance its Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) technology and progress its Lawson Machine 26 (LM26) demonstration program.
Analyst QuickTake: This funding follows General Fusion being awarded a grant of USD 800,000 from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) in March 2024 . The company planned to use the funds to design and deliver an ultra-fast neutron spectrometer system to measure plasma temperatures at fusion conditions of over 100 million degrees Celsius (10 keV).
