SPEE3D completes US Department of Defense RIMPAC exercise

  • SPEE3D, an Australian additive manufacturing solutions provider, announced the completion of Trident Warrior, the experimental portion of the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, at the Marine Corps Air Station in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

  • SPEE3D deployed its Expeditionary Manufacturing Unit (EMU) to print 11 cast-equivalent metal parts from aluminum and stainless steel to demonstrate that additive manufacturing can secure military supply chains by reducing the delivery time of critical parts from days to hours.

  • The exercise included approximately 29 nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, over 150 aircraft, and more than 25,000 personnel. 

  • Analyst QuickTake: The company has been strongly focusing on AM for the defense sector, launching its US-based manufacturing facility and applications center (in June) to collaborate more closely with US-based companies, including the US Department of Defense, and launching expeditionary manufacturing unit (EMU) (in May) to help customers produce high-density metal parts rapidly and on-site for defense and other heavy industries.
