Fonterra partners with Superbrewed Food to explore biomass protein applications

Partnerships

  • Fonterra, a New Zealand-based dairy cooperative, and alternative protein ingredient developer Superbrewed Food (formerly White Dog Labs), have formed a strategic partnership to explore applications of Superbrewed's biomass protein platform.

  • The partnership will focus on developing sustainable dairy solutions using Superbrewed's FDA-approved Postbiotic Cultured Protein, a non-GMO and allergen-free bacterial biomass protein. They will also explore applications in precision-fermented animal-free dairy and plant-based ingredients, aiming to meet the growing demand for sustainable protein solutions.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Superbrewed’s postbiotic cultured protein received self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status in May 2022, followed by a patent approval in January 2024. This latest partnership follows the company's recent partnerships with Döhler GmbH for production scaling and Bel Group for developing cheese products.
