After eight years of development, Israeli food tech company Equinom has commercially released its Manna technology, an AI-powered solution for optimizing high-protein yellow pea processing.
The Manna technology uses AI and genomic optimization to breed yellow peas with protein concentrations up to 75%, significantly higher than conventional peas' 21%–25% protein content, requiring minimal processing and reducing environmental impact.
Equinom reports potential savings of USD 300,000 to USD 500,000 for every 10,000 metric tons of grains processed annually using Manna, which is currently offered as a service with plans to transition to a SaaS model.
Field testing of Equinom's high-protein pea varieties is underway in Germany, and the company plans to extend the Manna system to other crops, including wheat, to further impact plant-based food production.
Analyst QuickTake: In December 2022 , the company raised USD 35 million in Series D funding to expedite its commercialization efforts in the B2B space. Before this commercialization, the company worked with companies like Sabra, PepsiCo, Good Mills Innovation, and Roquette, allowing them to utilize the Manna platform to develop custom products.
