MeliBio, a producer of bee-free honey, has obtained a utility model registration for its "Plant-Based Honey Composition" from the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), protecting its method of replicating honey using only plant-based ingredients.
The registration of the utility model in Germany is expected to support MeliBio's expansion and market presence in the EU, with growing consumer demand for plant-based products.
MeliBio is also developing a precision fermentation platform to replicate honey better and expand its product offerings, including producing bee proteins and enzymes for the ingredients market.
Analyst QuickTake: This utility model registration furthers MeliBio's efforts to offer its bee-free honey products in Europe. In January 2024 , the company partnered with organic food producer Narayan Foods to initially launch its bee-free honey in Austria and Switzerland and expand to other European countries. MeliBio also partnered with fast food chain Neat in July 2024 to release a menu dish made with its vegan hot honey, Mellody Spicy Habanero.
