Meta announced the Quest 3S mixed reality headset at its Connect 2024 conference. The headset, priced at USD 300, is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Quest 3. Shipping will start on October 15.
The Quest 3S features the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip as the Quest 3, offering similar mixed reality capabilities and performance. It uses Touch Plus controllers, has a Y-shaped split strap for comfort, and includes an "Action Button" for switching between passthrough and immersive modes. However, it has lower-resolution displays (1832 x 1920 per eye) and a narrower field of view than the Quest 3.
The company is also bundling the new Batman: Arkham Shadow title with purchases of both Quest 3 and 3S models.
Analyst QuickTake: The Quest 3S is one of the market's most affordable mixed reality headsets, as the company seeks to capture revenue from budget-conscious consumers. Notably, its launch undercuts other flagship headsets announced by heavyweights in the space ( HTC Vive Focus Vision , priced at USD 999, and Pico 4 Ultra , priced at ~USD 670).
