Eion, a carbon removal company using enhanced rock weathering (ERW), has partnered with Microsoft to deliver 8,000 tons of permanent CO2 removal credits over five years.
The partnership involves using olivine, a mineral optimized for quick weathering, on farmland in the Mid-Atlantic region. Eion will use its patented direct measurement approach to verify carbon removal by third-party standards.
Eion also secured USD 3 million in Series A extension funding from several investors, including agricultural distributor Growmark. This funding will support Eion’s commercial growth, contract fulfillment, and further R&D investment in its ERW technology.
Analyst QuickTake: In November 2023 , Eion became the first ERW solution to deliver CO2 removal to Stripe, which committed an additional USD 1 million to repurchase additional CO2 removal from Eion. The company aims to remove 10 million tons of CO2 annually by 2030.
