A2Z Drone Delivery (A2Z), a developer of a tethered freefall drone delivery system (which allows drones to deliver parcels without landing), announced the launch of “RDSX,” a commercial drone delivery platform that was developed in collaboration with an unnamed leading logistics provider.
RDSX integrates the company’s proprietary tethered freefall Rapid Delivery System “RDS1,” which enables the drones to drop packages from altitudes of up to 150 feet.
The drones can carry two payloads at a time weighing up to 4.4 lbs each, covering a range of around 11 miles, or can be configured to carry one parcel, which in turn would expand its delivery range to around 19 miles. RDSX is also equipped with two cameras for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations.

Analyst QuickTake: Multi-drop drones have recently gained traction in the drone-based delivery space with drone startups, including Skycart and Wingcoper, having already announced plans to bring such drones to the market. In fact, Skycart announced the development of a four-drop drone model in May, while Wingcopter launched its three-drop drone in April this year . However, A2Z's drones distinguish itself from peer offerings due to its freefall nature, which could also lead to the company facing fewer regulatory restrictions, as freefall drones give rise to less safety and privacy concerns than low-flying drones.
