Biometric payment card technology provider IDEX Biometrics has partnered with Vietnamese smartcard manufacturer MKSmart (which ranks among the top 10 largest card manufacturers in the world), to develop a biometric smart card for payments, access controls, and identification.
The biometric smartcards will feature IDEX’s TrustedBio fingerprint sensor module, which includes Infineon’s SLC38 security controller.
The biometric smart cards have been targeted for delivery by the end of 2022. Further, the partnership will involve the development of biometric authentication solutions for cryptocurrency wallets, and digital ID cards for government, IoT, and enterprise applications.

Analyst QuickTake: The partnership adds on to IDEX’s commercialization drive and comes just one month after it entered a similar partnership with an unnamed global tier-one smartcard manufacturer. Moreover, it was also selected by the Chinese card manufacturer Union Smart Card Co (in September 2021), to develop the latter’s cold wallet visual payment card.
