Sandbox & Co., a UK-based operator of edutainment products, acquired online educational platform PlayKids for an undisclosed sum. Following the acquisition, Movile, a major PlayKids shareholder, will become a minority investor in Sandbox.
The acquisition allows Sandbox to expand its product portfolio and enter the Latin American market under the leadership of Guilherme Martins, CEO of PlayKids.
PlayKids promotes child development through video content, books, and online learning under its two core brands: 1) the PlayKids app, an on-demand video platform for children aged 2–6 and 2) Leiturinha, a children’s book subscription service, which the company claims is the largest in Brazil. PlayKids currently serves 4+ million monthly subscribers.
