• A2Z Smart Technologies Corp, the parent company of Israel-based smart cart provider Cust2Mate, has released performance data for the roll-out of smart carts at Yochananof, an Israel-based supermarket chain.

 • Based on a 30-day pilot at one of Yochananof’s flagship locations, Cust2Mate Smart Carts outperformed both traditional POS and self-checkout payment options in terms of average items sold per basket and average total spent per basket.

 • On average, shoppers using Cust2Mate Smart Carts purchased around 36 items, while shoppers using traditional POS and self-checkout stood at approximately 31 and 27 items, respectively. Meanwhile, shoppers using Cust2Mate Smart Carts spent an average of USD 117 per basket, while those using the cashier lane spent USD 98 per basket, with self-checkout coming in third at USD 87 per basket. Feedback from customer service surveys has also been generally positive.

Cust2Mate has several supermarket pilots in play currently. In February 2022, Cust2Mate announced its second pilot in the US with Evergreen Kosher Market at its location in New York. The same month, the company also launched a pilot with Mexico-based retailer Chedraui . The recent Yochananof pilot provides quantitative evidence that Cust2Mate Smart Carts are capable of driving increased revenues and a frictionless shopping experience. The company’s long-term success will depend on whether these operational results can be replicated beyond Israel.
