OLIO, a British food-sharing app that connects neighbors and volunteers, has extended its partnership with online grocery platform Pandamart (a brand operated by popular food delivery firm Foodpanda) to allow the latter to distribute unsold food at its stores in Singapore.
As per the partnership, Pandamart can upload the food that is about to expire or perish onto the OLIO app, which will be then be redistributed to local households and communities free of charge by OLIO volunteers.
This initiative was initially put to trial in December 2021 at Pandamart Whampoa store and in three months, the companies were able to redistribute close to 400 kg of food, equivalent to over 900 meals for 180 local families. Pandamart is now looking to deploy the OLIO app at two more of its stores in Tampines and Bukit Batok, and to all 15 Pandamart stores by the end of 2022.

Analyst QuickTake : The partnership falls under OLIO’s “Food Waste Heroes Program,” which picks up and delivers surplus food to communities in need. Pandamart is the latest addition to the company's partnership list of 3,000 businesses for this program, which also includes big names like Tesco. For its app, the company has set a target of 1 billion OLIOers by 2030. To support its expansion plans, the company also announced early this week that it is recruiting a full C-suite team with prior experience in the tech and consumer sector.
