IonQ extends partnership with Hyundai for quantum-assisted object detection

Partnerships

Maryland-based quantum computing company IonQ has partnered with Hyundai Motor Company to jointly research and develop image classification and 3D object detection technologies for motor vehicles including self-driving vehicles. This is an extension of the partnership entered into in January 2022 to apply quantum computing to research lithium car batteries for electric vehicles.

 • As part of the extended partnership, IonQ has already been successful in classifying 43 types of road signs and plans to expand its capabilities to identify more road signs, pedestrians, and cyclists, using its latest 20 algorithmic qubit-system Aria. The duo will then run real-world simulations by integrating IonQ’s data into Hyundai’s test environment.
