Vow, an Australian cultivated meat startup, has received regulatory approval from Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety to sell its cultured meat products. The company will debut its cultured foie gras, called "Forged Gras," at The Aubrey in Mandarin Oriental, priced at HKD 388 (~USD 50).
Forged Gras comprises 51% cultured Japanese quail cells combined with vegetable and herb-infused coconut oil, sunflower oil, and fava bean protein. The product is balanced with konjac, carrageenan, yeast extract for structure and flavor, and natural vegetable and fruit concentrates added for color.
The company claims its scalable production process will make the product accessible beyond scarcity limitations. Vow operates Factory 1, which can produce 30 tonnes of protein per year, and is developing Factory 2 with 100x higher capacity, making it one of the world's largest cultivated meat facilities.
Analyst QuickTake: Earlier this year, Vow secured regulatory approval for its cultivated quail product, Quailia, from the Singapore Food Agency. With this latest development, the company joins the ranks of Eat JUST as the only two companies with approvals in multiple countries, marking a major milestone.
