Munich-based startup Happy Ocean Foods was co-founded in 2020 by Robin Drummond and Julian Hallet to minimize the environmental impact of commercial fishing by focusing efforts on the development of plant-based alternatives to seafood. The company’s portfolio includes a 100% plant-based shrimp alternative (Shrymps),” which is shaped to mimic a regular shrimp and a plant-based tuna alternative.
Funding and financials
The company has concluded two funding rounds with EUR 118,000 (~USD 124,846) being raised at a pre-seed funding round that took place in May 2020 and an undisclosed sum raised at a seed round in 2021 led by VC fund Blue Horizon. Its latest funding was raised in May 2022 , a sum of EUR 300,000 (~USD 317,332) with the backing of Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg and Dagmar Wöhr when the company appeared on Lion’s Den, the German version of the US show Shark Tank.
