Loft Dynamics (formerly VRM Switzerland) is a Switzerland-based company developing VR simulation technology for helicopter pilots. The platform includes realistic training scenarios such as night-time flying, proficiency checks, and system failures. Pilots receive training credits for time spent in Loft Dynamics’ simulator, which features a dynamic six degrees of freedom motion platform, a full-scale replica cockpit, pose tracking, a sound system, and an instructor operating station. Loft Dynamics claims to be the first VR simulator authorized by a major aviation regulator (the European Union Aviation Safety Agency) and also claims to be non-polluting, less expensive than traditional training methods, and one-tenth the size of a traditional simulator.

In July 2024, Loft Dynamics received the FAA qualification for its VR simulator, marking the first such recognition for a VR flight simulation training device (FSTD) in the US.

Key customers and partnerships

The company’s client base include Airbus Helicopters, Air Zermatt, Colorado Highland Helicopters, Helitrans Norway, Meravo, and Mountainflyers.

In May 2024, Loft Dynamics partnered with Dufour Aerospace to create the world's first VR flight simulator specifically for eVTOL aircraft, scheduled for release in 2025. Other partnerships include that with 1) the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) (July 2023) to explore the use of VR flight simulation technology for pilot training and 2) Blackcomb Helicopters LP allowing the company to leverage Loft Dyanmics’ flight simulator to increase flight training capabilities and minimize safety risks and carbon emissions from in-flight training (June 2023)

Fundings and financials

In December 2022, the company raised USD 20 million led by a group of US-based venture capital firms, including Craft Ventures, Sky Dayton, and Up Ventures. The proceeds were earmarked for international market expansion, particularly in the US.
