Carbon Marketplace
?

Finland-based Puro.earth is a business-to-business marketplace for carbon trading. Businesses offering net carbon negative products can sell their excess carbon removals on the Puro.earth marketplace. These carbon removals are verified and measured by an independent third party and turned into CO2 Removal Certificates (CORCs). Businesses with net positive carbon footprints can purchase CORC’s on the Puro.earth marketplace to offset their carbon footprint. In October 2021, Puro.earth launched the Pre-CORC framework, enabling corporations to buy future CORCs. In October 2023 , the company launched Puro Connect, an API to managing CORCs. In December 2023, Puro.earth introduced the CORC Offtake Allocation Service for carbon credit suppliers to ensure carbon credit deliveries are made according to the pre-agreed arrangements.

Key customers and partnerships

In June 2021, Puro.earth was acquired by Nasdaq. However, Puro.earth remained an independent company and brand following the investment while the terms of the transaction were not disclosed. This acquisition scaled up Puro.earth’s marketplace to address the growing demand for carbon removal by corporations. Additionally, Nasdaq leveraged Puro.earth’s marketplace capabilities to improve its ESG-focused technologies and solutions. In March 2022 , Puro.earth and Nasdaq launched three new commodity reference price indexes to track the price of CO2 removals through Puro.earth’s CORCs.

In June 2023, Puro.earth entered into a strategic partnership with Climate Impact X (CIX) , a Singaporean marketplace for nature-based carbon credits, to align the demand and supply imbalances in the voluntary carbon market. In July 2023, the company partnered with Xpansiv to list Puro.earth's CORCs on CBL, Xpansiv's spot voluntary carbon credit marketplace. In September 2023, Puro.earth provided pre-certification for CORCs generated by American BioCarbon’s commercial facility. In October 2023, the company collaborated with Kita to offer biochar insurance for projects certified under the Puro Standard. In November 2023, Puro.earth partnered with Red Trail Energy , a bioethanol plant operator, to standardize the latter's CO2 removal credits. The company’s high-profile clients include Microsoft, Shopify, Swiss Re, Snap Inc and Telia Company, among others.
