Katmai has developed a browser-based 3D virtual office space providing a shared in-office experience for remote workers. Unlike other metaverse platforms, Katmai does not use avatars; instead, it uses the user's camera to show the user’s face as they move around the virtual office and enter meetings.
The platform offers private and coworking spaces and spatial audio to mimic real-life interactions, along with the ability to close office doors and screen-sharing and chat capabilities. Users are also able to choose from a range of virtual environments, such as a tropical getaway or an office under the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Further, the company claims that businesses are able to launch their own virtual office space in less than 24 hours through their desktop or mobile web browser without the need for a long onboarding process through a sales team.
The company officially launched its platform in October 2023, generating revenue via subscriptions priced at USD 15 per user per month.
Key customers and partnerships
Key customers include Starbucks and SoundCloud, with the company stating that dozens of Fortune 500 firms and startups use its platform.
Funding and financials
In April 2023, Katmai raised USD 22 million in a Series A funding round led by Starr Insurance Companies. Funds were earmarked to develop its metaverse platform further.
