Yo! Egg is an Israeli startup, founded in 2019, that manufactures plant-based whole eggs using plant-based proteins, sunflower oil, water, and flour. The startup claims to have developed the world’s first plant-based fried egg and poached egg.
The company focused on the production of a plant-based whole egg as opposed to powdered or liquid varieties. Using proprietary patent-pending ingredients, it developed an “egg white” and a “yolk” to create a plant-based whole egg for consumers who want the experience of a real egg but prefer a more sustainable and cholesterol-free approach. The startup launched its product in June 2021 .
Yo! Egg has already been introduced to the market in Israel and the company planned to debut its plant-based sunny-side-up egg and poached egg at the National Restaurant Association trade show in Chicago (May 2022). Following the tradeshow, in February 2023, the company debuted its poached style alternative egg on menus at restaurants across Southern California. Later, in September 2023, the company developed a mini plant-based sunny-side-up egg , which was slated to debut at the Vkind Experience (VKX) event in Los Angeles.
Key customers and partnerships
In July 2023 , the company partnered with Veggie Grill, a plant-based quick service restaurant (QSR), to launch plant-based whole eggs at Veggie Grill locations across the US, marking the first nationwide launch of Yo! Egg.
Funding and financials
In May 2022 , the company raised USD 5 million in an oversubscribed seed funding round that was co-led by Stray Dog Capital and NFX, along with the participation of Surround Ventures and Secret Chord Ventures. The funding was expected to be used for scaling up production and expediting its expansion into the US as well as developing hard-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, and baking solutions for domestic use.
