Italy-based Treedom is a remote tree-planting platform that allows users to pay farmers in Africa, South America, and Asia to plant trees on their behalf. Once a tree is planted, it will be photographed, geo-tagged, and receive a dedicated online page for the user to follow up. Treedom’s business model also helps local farmers as they get to keep the harvest from the tree.
Key customers and partnerships
Treedom primarily targets individual customers, but the company also offers customized tree planting packages for businesses. In October 2022, Treedom partnered with Electrosonic , an audiovisual and technology services provider, for tree planting and tracing their geolocation. In April 2023, the company partnered with Ferrari Group to create the Ferrari Group Forest, where Treedom will plant 3000 new fruit and forest trees over the course of the next three years, starting from 2023.
As of February 2024, Treedom had planted close to 4.2 million trees for over 1.3 million individual customers and for more than 12,000 companies.
Funding and financials
In September 2021, Treedom raised EUR 10 million (USD 11.8 million) in a venture funding round led by Nico Rosberg, former Formula 1 world champion, and Giorgio Chiellini, captain of the Italian national football team. Other investors also supported the round. The proceeds were used to develop its digital platform, launch new planting projects and to open up new subsidiaries in Paris and Amsterdam.
