UNDO

UK-based UNDO captures CO2 from the atmosphere and sequesters carbon. The company’s process involves spreading the dust of crushed basalt rock on croplands. With rainfall, basalt reacts with water and CO2 and turns into dissolved bicarbonate. This process is referred to as “enhanced rock weathering,” resulting in enhanced soil health and crop yields. UNDO works closely with farmers in the UK and the US.

Key customers and partnerships

In April 2023, UNDO served as Microsoft’s first enhanced rock weathering supplier to permanently remove ~5,000 tons of CO2 over 20 years. The company expected to see initial results from its field and mesocosm-scale experiments in Q2 2023, with plans to remove one million tons of CO2 by 2025. In September 2024, UNDO expanded its existing collaboration with Microsoft to remove a further 15,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere using rocks and soil.

In May 2023, UNDO received an additional GBP 800,000 (USD 994,000) contract renewal funding from digital infrastructure provider Stripe following a USD 500,000 purchase and research grant from Stripe in May 2021. In October 2023, the company partnered with Canadian Wollastonite (CW), an Ontario-based mining company, for a rock weathering carbon removal project. In December 2023, UNDO joined with Cur8, British Airways, and Standard Chartered for a joint venture to finance carbon removal suppliers. In addition, British Airways has agreed to purchase CO2 removal credits exceeding 4,000 tons from UNDO.
