Upcycled Foods Inc., previously known as ReGrained, is a producer of upcycled snacks (such as bars and puffs) from the grain waste originating from beer production. The company claims that its bars and puffs include a super grain that is high in protein, dietary fiber, and micronutrients and that it’s lower in sugar and calories than traditional wheat flour. As of October 2024, the Upcycled snack bars came in flavors such as Honey Cinnamon, Chocolate Coffee Stout, and Blueberry Sunflower Saison. The bars were sold at over 1,000 stores around the US and online. The company also planned to expand to other countries, such as Japan.
As of October 2024, the company had also expanded its product portfolio to include upcycled ingredients such as an arabica coffee leaf ingredient and a cacao fruit syrup as well as products such as protein crisps, bread, muffins, and naan flatbread. Upcycled had diverted 1.3 million lbs of food waste as of October 2024 and aimed to upcycle 10 million lbs of food by 2025. It also claimed to save 39 million liters of water and 40 acres of land by 2024 compared with the production of conventional wheat flour.
In June 2021, Upcycled received certification from the Upcycled Food Association founded by upcycled food companies to create a certified standard for upcycled food products and it claimed to be the first company to have its upcycled ingredients certified.
