Team SoloMid (TSM) is an esports organization founded in 2009. It was the most valuable esports company in the world in 2020 (valued at USD 410 million, with estimated revenue of USD 45 million). TSM is regarded as one of the top League of Legends squads in the North American league, holding the record for the most title wins at the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS). As of February 2021, the team has amassed USD 6.8 million in prize money, 24% of it from winnings from League of Legends. TSM’s sponsorship partners include Grubhub, Twitch, Logitech, and Lenovo. In 2020, TSM announced it will be building a 25,000 sq ft facility worth USD 50 million. TSM fields separate rosters across leading esports titles such as League of Legends, Rainbow Six, PUBG, and Valorant. It recently entered DOTA 2 esports with the signing of esports roster Team Undying in January 2022.
In June 2021, TSM announced signing a 10-year, USD 210 million naming rights deal with FTX Trading Limited and West Realm Shires Services, which own and operate FTX.com and FTX.US, respectively. The deal was considered to be one of the largest publicly disclosed sponsorship deals in esports history. As a result of the transaction, TSM was rebranded to TSM FTX across all competitive titles. TSM planned to use the funds to execute a five-year expansion plan, during which it will open offices in Asia, Europe, and South America and expand its mobile gaming platform. However, the deal was suspended in November 2022 following FTX's collapse.
It was announced following the sponsorship, that TSM’s new name, TSM FTX, nor the FTX brand will be featured on jerseys during the League of Legends Championship Series or other Riot Games esports across North America. This was due to the controversial nature of sponsorship deals with crypto exchanges as they restrict activations in certain leagues, particularly impacting Riot Games, the ultimate IP owner.
