Gelatex Technologies

Gelatex is an Estonian materials technology company specializing in 3D nanofibrous scaffolds and microcarriers for cell-cultured meat production. The company utilizes its patented high-throughput HaloSpin technology to develop scaffolds, which is claimed to be around 90% cheaper than electrospun and hydrogel solutions. Its portfolio as of February 2024 includes 7 different compositions for scaffolds and 3 for microcarriers.

In April 2022, the company opened a new research, engineering, and manufacturing facility for its nanofibrous production platform. This was intended to double its production capacity to 10kg per hour by the end of 2022.

Key customers and partnerships

In November 2023, the company partnered with ProFuse Technology to expand its capacity and accelerate the production of cell-cultured meat by combining its plant-based scaffolds with ProFuse’s media supplement.

In May 2024, the company partnered with Accelerate Estonia and ÄIO to conduct what was claimed to be Europe’s first novel foods public tasting.

In November 2021, the startup raised USD 1.2 million in seed funding co-led by Change Ventures and Crosslight Partners.
