Huntress

Huntress is a managed detection and response (MDR) service provider that offers an AI-based platform to small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), combined with human support for detecting and responding to cyber threats. Huntress’s service offering includes automated threat discovery, ransomware detection, and identifying external entry points. Huntress also offers its platform to managed security service providers (MSSPs), allowing the latter to provide managed detection and response capabilities to its own clients.

Huntress acquired the endpoint detection and response (EDR) startup, Level Effect in January 2021, to expand its cybersecurity capabilities. Following this, it acquired the cybersecurity awareness training platform, Curricula for USD 22 million in July 2022. Curricula leverages behavioral science to provide storytelling and animated characters that simulate cyberattacks to help employees recognize, deny, and thwart hacking attempts. The company also offers additional features such as a gamified phishing simulator, story-based training episodes, custom content creation tools, and compliance reporting. Huntress integrated Curricula's platform into its managed security platform to provide actionable threat training for SMBs.

Funding and financials

In May 2023, Huntress raised USD 60 million in a Series C funding round led by Sapphire Ventures. The firm reportedly planned to use the proceeds of the round to further develop its platform and drive market expansion.

In September 2022, the company raised USD 40 million in debt financing from CIBC Innovation Banking, bringing the total funding raised to nearly USD 100 million. The funds were utilized to accelerate M&A deals, research and development, and global expansion across Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

As of May 2021, the company had an employee headcount of 89. The company also exceeded USD 10 million in annual recurring revenue during early-2021.
