Arbiom is a French-American biotechnology company specializing in natural fermentation-derived alternative protein ingredients. The company’s production process includes a three-stage system (fermentation, liquid/solid separation, drying) and uses a unique microorganism strain that can use a variety of carbon sources, ranging from traditional agricultural sources to byproducts and wood residues, as feedstock.
In December 2023 , the company unveiled Yusto yeast protein, a fermentation-derived alternative ingredient approved for global use in food, including meat and dairy alternatives, snacks, sauces, and specialized nutritional products.
Key customers and partnerships
In October 2022 , Arbiom partnered with plant-based meat producer Barvecue to improve the taste, texture, and nutritional profile of clean-label plant-based meats.
Additionally, Arbiom leads a consortium of 17 partners covering the entire food and feed value chains from feedstock manufacturers to retailers for the SYLPLANT project. Key objectives of this project include the construction and operation of Arbiom’s 10,000-tons-per-year production plant and the development of next-gen meat analogs.
Funding and financials
In its latest funding round in September 2022, the company raised USD 10.5 million from nine investors to advance its wood-to-food technology. Further, the company has received several European grants totaling over EUR 42 million (~USD 46 million) for projects relating to next-gen alternative proteins.
