UBQ Materials, an Israeli company that develops bio-based thermoplastic materials, has partnered with metal-polymer parts manufacturer Polymertal to produce the carbon-friendly and sustainable metal-polymer material “SPP-50XX.”
Metal-polymer materials are usually made up of polymer substrates and metal plating, which have applications across automotive, aerospace, and industrial solution industries.
The SPP-50XX metal-polymer uses a substrate made of 20% UBQ and 80% polypropylene with copper and nickel as the metal plating. The material holds metallic properties (heat resistant, durable, and electromagnetic shielding properties) but is stated to be lightweight and reduce carbon emissions by 50%.

Analyst QuickTake: The partnership with Polymertal follows UBQ’s partnership with Teknor Apex last month, which marked the first time UBQ was used to produce thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) compounds. These partnerships add to the portfolio of leading companies UBQ Materials has partnered with, including AmBev , PepsiCo, Arcos Dorados (franchisee of McDonald’s restaurants across Latin America), and Daimler (Mercedes-Benz). To keep up with the demand, the company is also constructing a new facility in the Netherlands to go operational by Q4 2022.
