Shiok Meats collaborates with Mirai Food to develop cultivated beef

Partnerships

 • Gaia Foods, a subsidiary of Singapore-based cell-cultured meat producer Shiok Meats, entered into a strategic collaboration with Switzerland-based cultured beef producer Mirai Food to develop and launch cultivated beef in Singapore.

 • Mirai Foods will supply bovine muscle and fat stem cells from what they claim are natural, pure, and non-genetically modified premium cattle breeds, while Shiok Meats will leverage its regulatory knowledge to allow for expedited market entry to Singapore.

 • Shiok Meats is also looking into the potential distribution of its cultivated seafood into the Swiss market via the collaboration.

AnalystQuickTake: Shiok Meats has started picking up the pace recently in terms of its go-to-market strategies in preparation for commercialization. The company achieved a cost milestone in August 2022 , allowing it to stay on track with its initial goal of commercializing its first product by 2023 . In July, it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vietnam’s largest shrimp producer and exporter Minh Phu Seafood to introduce cultivated seafood into Asian markets. Shiok also has the benefit of operating in Singapore, given it’s the only country that has given regulatory approval for the sale of cultured meat, as of now.
