Steakholder Foods (formerly MeaTech), an Israeli FoodTech company developing cultivated meats, announced it will begin the development of cultivated pork products using a novel line of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) porcine cells extracted from sampled cells reprogrammed into an embryonic-like pluripotent state. According to the company, this method allows for unlimited and highly scalable generation from one cell bank for the production of muscle and fat cells as well as cultured meats.
The company has entered into a partnership with a leading iPS cell line provider to expedite timelines and intends to produce pork products–such as bacon, pork chops, and ham–as well as pork biomass as an ingredient for hybrid products. It aims to achieve the taste, texture, and mouthfeel of conventional pork using a unique combination of cell-cultured technology and 3D bioprinting.

Novel Farms also announced in August 2022 of a different but unique process of producing cultivated pork, allowing the company to achieve price parity. With no regulatory approval for the sale of cultured meat as of yet (except in Singapore), it will be a battle as to who can get their products market-ready and approved first.</ul>
