Colorado-based plant-based meat startup Meati Foods (formerly Emergy Foods), specializing in developing alternative meats from mycelium, announced it would debut its first marinated steak product—Meati Carne Asada—on November 10th.
Made using mycelium, the Carne Asada will have a texture similar to Meati’s classic steak and feature a whole-cut filet pre-seasoned with spices, including cumin and paprika. This launch will mark Meati’s fourth mycelium product following its Classic Cutlet, Crispy Cutlet, and Classic Steak.
Marketed as ready-to-cook, the company claims each 4oz serving is packed with nutrients, including protein, fiber, amino acids, iron, and zinc. Consumers will be able to purchase the product from the company’s website as a part of the holiday Variety bundle sold at USD 124.99 + tax which includes 4 each from Meati’s four products.
Analyst QuickTake : With the advancement in extrusion cooking and 3D printing technology, companies are increasingly developing more complex whole-cut meat alternatives such as filets. Juicy Marbles claims to be the first company to release plant-based whole-cut filet mignon in March 2021 using its proprietary Meat-o-Matic technology. Plant-based meat giant Beyond Meat unveiled Beyond Carne Asada Steak less than two months ago in collaboration with Taco Bell while Impossible Foods announced the development stage of its filet mignon two weeks ago. Other companies such as Redefine Meat and Novameat use 3D printing technology to produce their whole cuts which can be customized based on customer preferences.
