Starship Technologies, an autonomous delivery droid manufacturer, has expanded its droid-based delivery service to include Trafford in Greater Manchester, UK, in partnership with Trafford City Council and the convenience store chain, Co-op.
The service will be available for 24,000 residents residing in the Sale area of Trafford, with plans to expand operations to more locations in the future. Customers can place orders via Starship’s mobile app, upon which droids will be deployed to deliver groceries from two Co-op stores in the area.
Analyst QuickTake: Today’s launch in Greater Manchester adds to Starship’s recent expansion across the north of England, which began last November by launching the service in Leeds in partnership with Co-op. In addition, the company also operates droid-based delivery services across several towns in the UK, including Cambridgeshire , Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, and Central Bedfordshire in Bedfordshire, mostly conducted in collaboration with Co-op.
