Natural Fiber Welding (NFW), a technology company that develops textiles using recycled plants and natural fibers, and Pangaia, a British sustainable fashion brand, have jointly launched Air-Gilet, a bio-based black vest.
The vest features Pangaia’s FLWRDWN material as the filling alongside its organic cotton fleece as the lining, while the exterior is composed of a newly reformulated and thinner version of Mirum by NFW.
The Air-Gilet is priced at USD 800 and is claimed to be the first readily available garment with plant-based leather that can be produced at scale.
Analyst QuickTake: NFW’s plant-based leather alternative, Mirum, has gained popularity among global fashion brands as it seeks to increase its sustainability efforts. Over the past year, NFW collaborated with various companies to launch sustainable products, including UNLESS Collective for the world's first regenerative sneaker (December 2022), Allbirds for its first plant-based leather sneaker (September 2022), Brave GentleMan for a gender-neutral shoe collection (August 2022), Bellroy for a plant-based leather wallet (May 2022), and Ralph Lauren for a bio-based shirt (January 2022).
